Calling all Seattle-area teens📣 Join us for our annual Teen Action Fair! This year’s theme is Our Future is Within Grasp and centers around what we are truly capable of when we come together to create change.
The day will be full of fun and excitement and is a great opportunity to find out how you can get involved in your community. There will be local organizations from the greater Seattle area with volunteer opportunities and programs you can join. We know that looking for ways to take action can be overwhelming, but we’re here to help! This year’s theme encompasses many different issues with opportunities that appeal to a wide variety of interests! There will also be tours, fun activities, and snacks.
No RSVP is required, just bring yourself and a friend! We hope to see you there!

Before the Teen Action Fair I’d always wanted to make a difference, but I didn’t really know where to start. So this was a good starting point, and really inspired me to become more involved.

Accessibility at Teen Action Fair
The Youth Ambassadors have worked to bring a variety of accessibility options to the event, including ASL interpretations, captioning for pop-up activities, masks, headphones, and a quiet area. For more information about accessibility practices at the Discovery Center, see our accessibility page and email us at [email protected] with any additional questions or specific requests.

We are dedicated to making the Teen Action Fair a display of accessibility, where everyone can thrive without constraints. This also affects some of our visual and auditory events, as we need to ensure enjoyment for all. Blasting music and heightened sensory visuals are not appropriate for everyone. We will thus be paying higher regard and limiting our music. Our conversations about accessibility while planning TAF give me a sense of hope to see a space where everyone seamlessly belongs. I learned the importance of exhibiting a space like this.
This Teen Action Fair will have amplified access to ensure an exciting experience for everybody. We must always advocate for spaces that are equitable, safe, and ready.

Throughout my life, I have learned so much about accessibility. This is because I was born with Microtia–a condition in which the ear is underdeveloped. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to get an ear reconstruction surgery. Though this gave me more confidence in my appearance, I still struggle with being profoundly deaf on my left side. I must constantly find ways to point my right ear toward friends, family, teachers, and conversations so I can hear.
Knowing this, working on making the Teen Action Fair more accessible has truly been an amazing experience. We have learned strategies to improve accessibility for all guests, such as giving visual descriptions for the visually impaired, using microphones and real-time subtitles for the hearing impaired, and providing quiet spaces for those who need them.
We have all worked so hard to implement these strategies to make the Teen Action Fair Accessible, and I am so excited to see how it goes! – Tyson, YAP member
